| The free software repository for the agricultural sector is maintained by the AgroLivre Network, a partnership between Embrapa Information Technology, o Embrapa's Department of Information Technology e o Brazilian Information Technology Institute.
One of the objectives of the AgroLivre Network is to increase software supply for the agricultural domain by fostering and supporting software projects for this domain. The repository, an instance of GForge, is an infrastructure designed to enable software developers to work collaboratively and distributively. The software developers can also download programs to support the development process.
Although there are other software repositories, Embrapa, as a reference in agricultural research, maintains a software repository specifically directed to the sector. This can be seen as an integral part of its mission of transferring knowledge and technology in benefit of society.
The repository aims to host software projects initiated by Embrapa, private sector and other public institutions, such as universities and research institutions. The projects hosted in this repository are destined to the scientific and academic community, farmers and public and private enterprises.
